What You Need to Know About Foods
Now that you have your braces on, it is important to be careful about what you eat. You should avoid the following hard and sticky foods:
- The crispy crust of pizza
- Caramels, taffy, milk duds, bubblegum, etc.
- Hard candy bars, frozen candy bars (Baby Ruth, peanut brittle, Butterfinger)
- Hard candy ( Jolly Ranchers, Certs, Tic Tacs)
- Popcorn (unpopped kernels are hard and the shells often get stuck in your gums)
- Hard shell tacos and tortilla chips (try burritos or soft shell tacos)
- Hard, thick potato chips and corn chips (Doritos, Fritos, Corn Nuts)
- Nuts
- Beef Jerky
- Ice (O.K. for drinks but do not chew ice)
- Popsicles, hard frozen ice cream (soft serve is ok or let it sit for a while)
- Raw carrots, apples, celery (you must cut them in small pieces)
- Gummy bears, licorice, eye poppers, tearjerkers, starburst
These kinds of foods are okay to eat, if you are careful:
- Corn on the cob (cut off the cob)
- Gum ( preferably sugarless Carefree, Trident, Extra, etc.)
- NO BUBBLEGUM
- Fresh fruits and vegetables cut into small pieces
- Thin chips like Lays, Pringles, Cheeze Puffs
